Your hotel’s heavenly garden is just the beginning of all the natural splendour Cumbria has to offer. A little north of Morecambe Bay, Grange-over-Sands exudes the classical charm of its Victorian seaside heritage. Browse independent clothing stores in town, and wander along the promenade overlooking expansive marshland, where the restless tides of the estuary once ebbed. There’s also a golf course less than five minutes’ drive down the coast if you fancy taking a swing.

The nearby Cartmel is an enchanting little village well worth a visit, the birthplace of the nation’s favourite sticky toffee pudding. Between May and August, you can also enjoy an exciting day out at Cartmel Racecourse. Of course, the wonders of the Lake District are well within reach. Whether it’s a dreamy Lake Windermere cruise, or a gander through the fells and woodland, this jewel of north English beauty is yours to explore.
