Le Méridien Lav, Split, Grljevacka ulica 2, 21312, Split, Croatia

Set on its own beachfront, the hotel overlooks Split but is in Podstrana, where a slower pace of life makes for tranquil holiday serenity. If you can drag yourself away from the spa facilities and crystal blue sea, there’s a wealth of things to do in Split, just a 10-minute drive up the coast. Wander through the Roman ruins of Diocletian’s Palace and the Cathedral of St. Domnius, marvel at some art, or jump on a ferry to the island of Brač – home to the white pebble beach Zlatni Rat (Golden Cape), and the limestone rock used to build the White House in Washington D.C.

If you want to go a little further afield, Hvar is only a two-hour ferry ride away - wander the cobbled streets and climb up to Spanjola Fortress for incredible views across the island and out into the Adriatic.
