Tregurrian Hill, Watergate Bay, Cornwall TR8 4AB

Newquay, Padstow and the Eden Project are all less than a half-hour drive away, and the coastline itself is nothing short of stunning. Lace up and head off around the coastal paths on foot, explore the little boutiques and surf shops in the town centre, or pull on your wetsuit and get in the water.

Newquay is a hub of surf culture, and you’ll be a 15-minute drive from famed Fistral Beach. Watergate Bay is no less impressive and is prone to barrels, a favourite of surfers everywhere. The Cribbar, however, is the real challenge, with waves reaching 35 feet in height if conditions are right - be warned though, only seasoned pros should head into the water here, and beginners are better off watching the masters work the waves from the beach.
