An upscale Brittany escape to the Rose Granite Coast and a luxury, five-star spa hotel with gardens leading to Trestraou beach – includes breakfast, spa access and more
  • Sleep in style: A grand dame of the 1930s, L'Agapa Hôtel & Spa takes its legacy very seriously. The hotel has been given a sympathetic facelift, combining natural materials like granite, steel, copper and glass to blend Breton tradition and contemporary design with aplomb. The hotel nestles within spectacular coastal gardens, from which it’s possible to directly access the wide, pebble-backed sands of Plage de Trestraou.

  • Dinner with a view: Restaurant Le Belouga has front-row seats to the views over Sept Isles Bay, where you can sample the simple, flavourful Breton cuisine with ingredients carefully selected for their provenance – seared scallops, monkfish tail, meringue with buckwheat and cider. On warm days, pull up a spot on the sun-splashed terrace and knock back expertly mixed cocktails and lighter dishes like mixed cheese plates, burgers or grilled octopus.

  • Five-star wellness: The dreamy 400-square-metre spa is bathed in natural light and offers access to a heated indoor pool, Jacuzzi, a steam room, sauna and sun terrace with views across the Pink Granite Coast. Treatments use products from Codage Paris and include innovative (and delicious) sounding ingredients: think chocolate body wraps with a caramel candle massage; good enough to eat.

How to get there

The closest airports are Rennes Bretagne (about two hours’ drive) and Brest Bretagne (about one hour and 20 minutes). There’s a train station at Lannion, around 20 minutes’ drive away. Brittany is easily reached by ferry from the UK, with the closest ports found in Roscoff and Saint-Malo. We’d recommend bringing a car to make the most of Brittany’s remote beauty.

Good to know

Please note that the wellness area includes a heated indoor pool, sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi and a fitness room that can be accessed from 3pm on your day of arrival until 11.30am on your day of departure.

L'Agapa Hôtel & Spa, 12 Rue des Bons Enfants, 22700 Perros-Guirec, France

Brittany’s wide cobalt skies, scudding white clouds, soaring cliffs and windswept fishing villages are the perfect place to seek peace: in this lesser-populated region of France, the soundtrack is that of marinas ringing with the clink of rope on mast, squawking gulls, the gentle chug of fishing boats and the haunting, folksy vocals of sea shanties. Escape to the Rose Granite Coast for a slower pace of travel, whether on foot along clifftop paths, pedalling down quiet lanes or driving between colourful towns. Head to Perros-Guirec to see the pink-hued granite rocks, hewn by wind and sea; sandy beaches invite bracing swims – take a revitalising plunge after a walk along the Douaniers trail, which showcases the region’s beauty as well as its rich heritage.

Bird enthusiasts will relish the chance to visit the Seven Islands Archipelago by boat to spot gannets, puffins and cormorants. Stay on dry land and view the islands from afar on the Renote Peninsula, where majestic granite cliffs are bested only by the peninsula’s lush vegetation. The lighthouse of Ploumanach is worth a stop, too.
